"Inside The Ouroboros" is another look into Looprider's "Ouroboros" album. These tracks are cuts that were completed, but ultimately did not make it onto the final album.
The writing for "Ouroboros" was broken up into two periods; one which was kicked off right after finishing the writing of "Umi" and another which took place over the course of several months after "Umi" was released. The tracks on "Inside The Ouroboros" were written from the first period, where the record was at the time envisioned to be an all-encompassing album featuring all the distinct styles of Looprider.
As more songs came together, it became clear that the record was morphing into a singular, gut-punch of a statement, and didn't have much room to venture into digressions of various styles.
The first track, "Destroya", was one of the first songs written post-"Umi" and was for a long time considered to be the definitive track for our next would-be album. Ultimately the track was cut because we already had other long songs on the album, and it no longer represented the mindset we were in by the time we were into tracking.
"Gala," which was also on Call And Response Records' anniversary release "Call And Response Is Half Dead", was an attempt to create a "disco-stoner" track with a bit of a twist. It was dropped in favor of some other tracks that had a similar vibe on the final record.
"Silver & Gold" was also a long-time favorite, as it took us back to a more shoegaze-ish style we had explored on some of our earlier records, but as we listened to the album in sequence it stood out like a sore thumb and took away from the "gut-punch" element we wanted the record to have.
We still feel like these tracks are strong cuts (which is why we're releasing them!) but at the end of the day, they didn't fit with the flow of the album that we wanted to make.
We are happy to share these tracks with you now, fully mixed and mastered, to provide a deeper insight into where we were going as we were putting "Ouroboros" together.
"Inside The Ouroboros" is a digital-only release exclusive to Bandcamp. All sales will be donated to Call And Response Records' fundraiser campaign, which has been set up to support local music venues in Tokyo, Japan who have been affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
