Bought this album on the strength of Epsilon, but the whole thing delivers. It's big and fuzzy and catchy as hell. When the music isn't driving the vocal melodies verge on haunting.
Favorite track: Epsilon.

The band's most diverse and interesting set of songs yet; nothing too unexpected, but catchy and well executed!
Favorite track: Nightfall.

Looprider's righteous mix of shoegaze, heavy fuzz and noise rock is as fresh and addicting now as when I first heard them. "Metamorphose" is an absolutely killer LP that has gotten better with each listen.
Favorite track: Black Rain.
Tokyo-based rock band Looprider will release its new album, Metamorphose, on Friday, April 7, 2023 from Japanese label Call And Response Records. The release is the first album featuring new drummer Ryo7 and serves as the latest entry in the group’s ever-expanding “Looprider Multiverse,” with each previous album representing a corner of their signature sound, from shoegaze, doom metal, psychedelic rock, noise, and beyond. The band drops the first single from the album, the anime-induced cyber-stoner track “Epsilon,” today on all digital streaming platforms, alongside a new music video.
Recorded in 2021 and 2022, Metamorphose reimagines the band’s core influences and combines them in a multi-faceted prism, showcasing different sides of the Looprider sound in an eight-track package. The album features the heavy, grunge anthem “Red,” which was part of Adult Swim’s Japan Is Loud compilation, released last year and featuring other prominent acts from the Japanese underground, including Boris, Melt-Banana, DMBQ and Otoboke Beaver. Other tracks include the psychedelic, slow-burner “Nightfall,” the drone metal dirge “After The Flood,” and the shoegaze ballad “Mermaid. The album continues to showcase the group’s now-signature bass-less, three-piece instrumentation of drums and dual, tuned-down baritone guitars, powered by stacks of Orange and Hiwatt amplifiers.
The band once again has teamed up with Taka KUBO of Studio CHAOSK Inc., whose previous works include Self Deconstruction’s WOUNDS, BUTCHER ABC’s North of Hell, and GUEVNNA’s Heart of Evil, to record, mix and master the album.
Metamorphose will be released on all digital download and streaming formats and also as a limited 180g heavy black vinyl pressing, which will be available via Bandcamp.
Floor-to-ceiling Boris ragers! It’s like they looked back on songs like Statement and Woman On the Screen and said “let’s do a whole album like that!” Most of these tracks don’t even pass 3 minutes! Zerkalo holds up the middle with some anguished doom.
In the end, *NO* is as strong and declarative as it’s title. Brian Parker
boris at their most sublime. Strong echoes of Sunn O))) and hints of Earth, but unmistakably Boris with their heavy drones. They are on an absolute creative roll right now. Doompsychkrautele
Plinky shoegaze-inflected guitar rock confronts the world with both nihilism and hope on the sophomore release Philadelphia band Knifeplay. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 1, 2022
The Arizona band do right by post-hardcore on their immersive new LP, leavening untempered breakdowns with carefully-measured catharsis. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2018
